Cataract Surgery Restores Vision
A cataract occurs due to clouding of your natural lens. This clouding of the lens blocks the amount of light that enters the eye, resulting in a progressive loss of vision. Fortunately, cataract surgery can safely and effectively restore your vision.
Cataracts develop when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy.
The most common cause of cataract formation is aging, with estimates that 60% of individuals will experience some degree of cataract development by age 60 and above. Learn more about the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of cataracts.

The main cause of cataract formation is age.
But there can be other causes as well.
How can we prevent cataracts?
While cataracts are not completely preventable, you can take steps to delay them from occurring at a young age.
-
Protect Your Eyes from Sunlight : constant exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to early cataract formation. So wear sunglasses when outdoors, or headgear such as hats with a wide brim.
-
Maintain a Healthy Diet : a nutritious and balanced diet, with fresh vegetables full of vitamins and antioxidents, may help slow down cataract formation
-
Stop Smoking : long term smoking is a risk factor for cataract formation
-
Control Your Diabetes : poor control of diabetes can result in early cataract formation, as well as bleeding and swelling of the retina

Personalised Consultation
At this first consultation, you will meet me and the rest of the team. You will receive a thorough eye examination, which includes imaging with our advanced diagnostic equipment.
I will also discuss with you your concerns, goals and wishes for the cataract surgery, and together we will decide on the most suitable treatment for you.
Surgery Day
It is the day of the surgery, but not to worry - my staff and I have already briefed you on how to prepare for the surgery, including the care of your eyes and the use of any eyedrops.
The actual procedure itself will be pain-free and only 20 minutes. Our experienced anesthetist will also be by your side to keep you relaxed and comfortable during the operation.
Surgical Listing
Once you have decided for the surgery, my team will work with you on selecting your preferred date and time for the surgery. We will also assist you in any paperwork needed for your Medisave and insurance claims.
Before the actual surgery, one more appointment will be made for pre-operative test, and I will meet you again to discuss and answer any questions you may have.
Rest and Recovery
The surgery is done! After a short period of rest, you can go home. Eyedrops and instruction for aftercare will be provided before you leave.
I will see you the next day, and vision should already begin to improve. Regular appointments will be scheduled for this first month as we chart your recovery from the surgery. Congratulations!
